Post PaxAus Update
Hey all!
For our first devlog we wanted to make a post about demoing our game at PAX AUS 18.
Firstly a huge thanks to everyone who came and played our game. We put a lot of effort into this game and it was super gratifying to see all our reactions when playing the game. Thanks for all the lovely comments and feedback as well.
Since this was our final year uni project, we did not have much opportunities to test out our game and there had been many changes since the last public presentation. So the game turned out to be unintentionally very difficult, lots of players had a tough time in finishing the level. However to our surprise many people enjoyed and even welcomed the difficulty, it was unexpected but it did suit the design.
The most common feedback we received from most of the players was that the game design is great however the execution requires more polish and better feedback systems. We were a bit worried about the overall game design but we are glad that its came together well. As a wise man once said "Good design is more important than execution as the latter can be improved easily".
The main highlight of the 3 day demo was this little kid who played the game continuously for 40min and never gave up until he beat the level. Seeing his enthusiasm towards getting better with each try was an amazing pay off to all our hard work. His final expression when he beat our game is truly something money cant buy and its what inspires us as gamedevs.
Overall the experience was great and it was super cool to represent Deakin as the first gamedev team to showcase at PAX. We cant thank our lecturers and Deakin enough for giving this opportunity. As this was an uni project there are a few formalities we need to continue with this project.
